The fastest private jets for sale in 2020

In our fast-paced globalized world, the age-old adage of “time is money” has never rung truer. While recent advances in telecommunication have enabled remote collaboration beyond what we ever imagined possible, digital meetings often aren’t nearly as effective as communicating in person.

But how do you balance managing your time with attending face-to-face meetings near and far? While flying commercially between destinations seems like the fastest option, if you’re on the cusp of closing a new acquisition, scrambling to save a key strategic partnership or trying to squeeze some time off in between business meetings, time is of the essence.

Enter private jets. While the thought of investing in this high-end mode of transportation can be daunting, for a busy professional with business in multiple locations nationwide, buying a private jet could be a game-changer. While the fastest jet in the world is only as good as the convenience, utility and agility it brings to your life, the paramount advantage is, of course, speed.

In the words of F1 legend Mario Andretti, “If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough.” With that in mind, and because we know time is your most valuable resource, we set out to comparison shop the fastest private jets in the world.

Cessna Citation X+

Also known as the Model 750, the Cessna Citation tops the list of the fastest private jets available for sale in 2020. A far reach from the pedestrian single-propeller aircraft Cessna is most known for, the Cessna Citation X+ can reach a top speed of 717.38 mph (Mach 0.935).

Considering a Citation X+ can make it from Los Angeles to New York in four hours, the time value this private jet offers its owner is undeniable. Boasting an impressive range of 3,981 miles (3,460 nautical miles), the Cessna Citation tackles most global routes with ease. Its ultra-luxurious cabin comfortably seats nine, with a total capacity for two crew members and 12 passengers. This jet also has ample room for luggage, golf bags, skis or whatever else you have in tow.

Bombardier Global 7500

The Bombardier Global 7500 is the largest and longest-range business jet available for sale today. With a maximum speed of 709 mph (Mach .925), it’s also tied with the Gulfstream G700 as the second fastest private jet in the world on the 2020 market.

In fact, the Bombardier Global 7500 recently broke the flight time record between New York and Los Angeles, making the trip in a blistering three hours 54 minutes. For reference, the average commercial flight takes around six hours to make the same trip. As if holding the title of fastest jet for sale in 2020 wasn’t impressive enough, the Global 7500 is also one of the most spacious business jets you can buy today.

This ultra-long-range luxury jet features a large, configurable four-zone cabin, complete with a full-sized kitchen, dedicated crew suite, conference suite, optional master suite with a full-size bed and private lavatory with available stand-up shower. As a bonus, this private jet also features a proprietary Nuage seat design with deep recline, a jet lag-fighting Soleil™ lighting system and next-generation fly-by-wire technology.

In its highest-capacity configuration, the Global 7500 has room for 19 passengers, 195 cubic feet of cargo capacity and an impressive maximum range of 8,861 miles (7,700 nautical miles) with eight passengers and four crew.

The Gulfstream G700 can also reach a top speed of 709.724 mph (Mach .92), tying with the Global 7500 as the second-fastest private jet in the world. Also holding the title of second longest max flight range, along with the widest, longest and tallest cabin in the private aircraft space, the release of the G700 has fundamentally redefined what it means to travel in comfort and style.

Featuring the newest high-thrust Rolls Royce engines, this jet can be specced with up to five living areas, enabling owners to curate their ideal flight experience with several flexible configurations and interior designs. Also matching the range-topping 19-passenger capacity of the Bombardier Global 7500, this flagship business jet can sleep 13 and reach a maximum cruising altitude of 51,000 feet.

Bombardier Global 6500

Ranking among the top five fastest private jets available for sale today, the Bombardier Global 6500 is certainly no slouch. With a max speed of 690 mph and a cruising speed of 652 mph, this private jet may be faster than the Cessna Citation X in practical terms. Not one to sacrifice eco-friendliness for speed, Bombardier’s purpose-built Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines also deliver a 7 percent reduction in fuel consumption and a 30 percent reduction in emissions.

Adding its 4k-enabled cabin, class-leading in-flight connectivity, well-appointed aft private suite and spacious bathroom with optional shower to the equation, the Global 6500 emerges as an excellent choice for jet setters and executive travelers alike. Like its Global 7500 counterpart, the Global 6500 also comes equipped with Bombardier’s proprietary Nuage seating technology, enabling passengers to recline in unprecedented comfort.

Dassault Falcon 7x

No list of the fastest private jets for sale today would be complete without a mention of the Dassault Falcon 7x. Capable of a maximum speed of 592 mph (Mach .77), a max range of well over 6,500 miles and the shortest takeoff and landing distance of all jets mentioned on this list, the Dassault Falcon 7X can get 12 passengers and three crew to most global destinations in no time.

Not one to stop at speed and range alone, the Falcon 7x is configurable to seat up to 19 passengers, ranking it among the largest capacity private jets. Along with its range-topping performance specs, this business jet sets itself apart as one of only a few trijets in production today. Equipped with three Pratt & Whitney PW207A engines packing a combined 19,200 pounds of thrust, the 7x can reach a max altitude of 51,000 feet.

Despite coming in toward the bottom of our list of fast private jets, the Embraer Phenom 300e is no slouch. Holding steady as the best-selling light business jet in the world seven years in a row, this aircraft is the fastest, most efficient and longest-range single-pilot jet you can buy in 2020. Featuring an opulent cabin design with diamond-stitched seats reminiscent of the finest luxury automobiles, the Phenom 300e also includes a divan, galley and full lavatory.

Adding amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi and a next-generation in-flight entertainment system, the 300e is perfect for both the business and leisure traveler alike.

Aerion AS2

While the Aerion AS2 is still in development and won’t be available for sale until 2023, its otherworldly projected performance numbers earn it an honorable mention on our list of fastest jets. Expected to clock in with a max flight speed of 1,227 mph (Mach 1.6) and cruising speed of 1,074 mph (Mach 1.4), this 12-passenger supersonic jet is expected to smash the current private aircraft speed record by a margin of nearly 200 percent.

To accomplish this feat, Aerion has partnered with Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Airbus, tapping their defense and commercial sector experience to push the boundaries of what was thought to be possible in the private jet space. Adding Aerion’s plans to make the AS2 completely carbon neutral by tuning its GE engines to run on biofuel without the need for an afterburner, the AS2 will also likely make history as the most eco-friendly business jet available.

If all goes as planned, the AS2 should have a range of around 5,466 miles (4749.824 nautical miles), enabling unprecedented global access for passengers, with flight times that will change the face of business travel forever.
